  1. I agree completely about art and emotion. At his “Computers and God” lectures at MIT, I asked Knuth if programming really was an art if you couldn’t communicate emotion. His answer included the notion of art as beauty, and that some solutions are very beautiful.

    To me, it’s more of a craft. An illustrator can paint a very beautiful picture, but I won’t call it a fine art.

    Certainly programming can be beautiful and creative. It’s just like when people claim that computer science isn’t a science. Am I a scientist? Am I an artist? It depends on your definition. But whatever I am, I’ll be it today and tomorrow and the next day…
